Shawn Fitzgerald Ahern is an American choreographer, dancer and director based in Berlin. Following seven years creating and performing full time in New York City with Pilobolus Dance Theatre, he moved to Belgium at the invitation of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, where he spent four years as lead performer and creative associate to Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet. He has created and performed with European companies including Gothenburg Dance Company, Eastman, Rambert, Ballet Flanders and Ballet de Genève.
Now Shawn engages as an emerging independent choreographer and director in diverse projects around the world, alongside continuing work with Jalet and Cherkaoui. He has contributed to over thirty major productions across a wide range of platforms, including several Grammy and Academy Award nominations. His independent films have been featured and awarded at many international festivals, and his choreographic work is regularly lauded by the press. His work as associate choreographer to Jalet was seen on the Opéra Garnier façade in ‘Chiroptera’ and is also featured in Jacques Audiard’s newest feature film ‘Emilia Perez’ which premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2024 and is nominated for 13 Academy awards. He will soon be directing three new short films, choreographing dance commissions in Europe and New York, and co-directing the new Fedora prize nominated Opera The Curing Line.
